Two St. Louis area singers are battling it out on “The Voice.” Patrick Thomson, 35, of Festus, and Tess Boyer, 21, of Glen Carbon, both works with opposing side on NBC singing competition show this season. Boyer works as a St. Louis Rams cheerleader before joining the and is now on Usher’s team while Thomson, a guy that works at odd jobs - from construction to telemarketing is on Adam Levine’s team. Boyer has some singing experience. She sang the national anthem during her school’s time to compete in the Rams’ 2010-2011 season. Boyer was a former contestant “American Idol,” auditioned for “The Voice” in St. Louis last year when some of her friends convince her to try “The Voice”. Last week, she had sung the song “Wings,” a song by new group Little Mix. Usher turned his chair around for Boyer; the other coaches did not. “It only takes one,” she points out. However, the other coaches that they like the energy that they are singing of her voice. Thomson doesn’t have a singing background on his portfolio. However, he does enjoy his time on the show and the experience he got are all positive. It was his mother that convinces him to try out for the show. He was hesitant because he felt like that he was too old for the show. Later he checked the rules ad found nothing against any age limit. Thomson performed “Can’t You See” by the Marshall Tucker Band Usher thought that his voice resembles the vocals of Joe Cocker. Shelton was also amazed with his voice, but it was Levine’s thumbs up that means the most for him because he admired him. Last week, there was also the 29, of St. Louis, Theresa Payne who received a bit of airtime, but didn’t make it to the next round. Payne is always auditioning for such contest, but always come up empty handed at the end. When she saw the show’s auditions were coming to St. Louis, “it felt like a fate kind of thing,” she says. She sailed through the open call audition and was even arranged with a private audition but wasn’t able to deliver because she had to sing Beyonce song choice, which is strange considering Payne likes to perform Beyonce’s “Deja Vu” and “Get Me Bodied.” However, the sad part is that “Crazy in Love” is one Beyonce song she’d never performed. Though, her tryout didn’t work out as plan, it helps her to become ever more courageous.
