Alphonso Joshep D'Abruzoo is an American actor who was born on January 28th 1935. Currently he is 74 years old and is still doing what he loves best; films and television shows. Early Life: Alan was born and raised in The Bronx, New York. His father was an actor and singer and his mother was a former model who won the title of Miss New York. During his early years he attended Archbishop Stepinac High School and Fordham University in NY, he also went abroad to Paris to studied and act in the play "Rome" alongside his father. TV Career: Alan Alda's TV breakthrough came when he auditioned for the role of Hawkeye Pierce in the hit TV show M.A.S.H. M.A.S.H. was basically an adaptation of the 1970 film of the same name, this was a dark comedy about a bunch of military men. This show ran from 1972-1983 and Alan was nominated for 21 Emmy Awards for the part he played in creating this show; out of the 21 nominations Alan took home 5 awards. Alan Alda is not only an actor he also wrote 19 episodes of M.A.S.H. and directed 32 episodes of this show; his work on this show was so great that he became the first person to win an Emmy Award for acting, writing, and directing the same series. After M.A.S.H. Alan went on to star in over 30 different television shows, he has also utilized his writing and directing skills and is known for working on shows such as 30 Rock, ER, and Club Land. The one that stands out the most is his work on The West Wing. This program was basically about the work of the fictional President Bartlet and his staff who worked in the west wing of the white house; of course this is where the show got its name from. Alan Alda did such a great job working on this show that he won an Emmy for Outstanding supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2006, but this is not surprising because he usually does a great job at all his shows. Other achievements: Alan Alda is also known for his work on such films as The Aviator. He has also taken home Golden Globe awards and DGA Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in comedy Series. He is definitely one of the great minds of our time when it comes to film and television. Alan Alda has also been an avid supporter of feminism; he has championed this cause for a number of years and continues to do so.
