Charles "Charlie" Gibson is probably one of the better known TV anchors on American television. Ever since his graduation in 1965 from Princeton University, Charles Gibson enjoyed an extensive career in broadcasting. A year on from his graduation from Princeton University, he started his career as a producer for RKO General (student controlled radio station) and was also a local TV reporter. Since then continued working in the industry from 1966 to 2009. Gibson actually retired in 2009 at the peak of his career after successfully working for ABC in the role of an anchor for his flagship program "World News with Charles Gibson". His career started with ABC many years before after joining ABC News in 1975. Ever since then he worked as a reporter and went onto host Good Morning America in 1987. The Good Morning America show was to become the most popular morning program on TV. He worked on the show until 1998, but returned to the sets again to host the show for another 7 years from 1999 to 2006. In May 2006, he took over as the anchor of program "World News Tonight", from Elizabeth Vargas, who resigned from the program to lower her workload following her Doctor's advice. Following Gibson's move as the sole host of the program, the program changed its title to "World News with Charles Gibson". Charles Gibson was born on 9th of March 1943, in the town of Evanston in Illinois. He was raised mostly in Washington, where he spent a lot of his life. Gibson went to study at Princeton University where he actively took part in the running and broadcasting of the University radio station. Charles Gibson is married and has 2 daughters. One of his daughters, Jessica, gave birth to Charles Gibson's first grandchild. Gibson's wife, Arlene Gibson, has had a long career as an educator. His wife was last employed as a head of school before recently retiring. During his career as a broadcaster, Charles Gibsons hosted and was part of high profile interviews and political debates in the run up to the 2008 general election. He co-moderated the democrats candidate debate between Obama and Hilary Clinton and was the first person to interview Sarah Palin after she was appointed the vice presidential nominee candidate. Gibson enjoyed considerable success for the "World News with Charles Gibson" show. His show reached the highest rating after beating the "NBC Nightly News" program in year 2007. Gibson retired at the peak of his career whist the demand for him was high at ABC News. He actually retired against the wishes of the channel. Before that he earned himself major interviews. Gibson interviewed other leading figures like Bill Clinton in 1992 and President Bush in the same year when he was presenting Good morning America. Charles Gibson has earned various honors and awards throughout his career in broadcasting. This includes the National journalism Fellowship by National Endowment for the Humanities in 1973. In 2006 Charles Gibson" was awarded with the Paul White Award which was followed by a Fred Friendly First Amendment Award a couple of years later in 2008.
