For a consecutive nine years, he was the founding host of Today on NBC. Garroway at large was the television program which introduced him to television audiences. This was an experimental music variety show which propelled him to audiences in television. The program ran for two years on NBC. With other leading television personalities, Garroway was among the pioneers of television talk shows. He was famously identified by his unique signoff which was "Peace." It was accompanied by an upraised palm. The television talk shows in which Garroway was part of were said to be extremely conversational. It was in nineteen fifty one when NBC president picked Garroway for a stint at a Morning news and entertainment. Later on, he was joined by a news editor and then announcer. The trio went on to become television's first family soon after the show hit the airwaves in January nineteen fifty two. Caraway's easy going character in the morning is one which worked for him, as it was able to attract a large audience. At the same time, this journalist was still hosting another show, The Dave Garroway Show, which used to be aired every Friday night. It was run for a year. In nineteen fifty five, he began hosting a Sunday live documentary which continued until June nineteen fifty eight. This is one show which made this broadcast journalist explore the world, as his ideas took him places, to Paris in nineteen fifty nine and Rome in nineteen sixty. It was known that if the show couldn't go out to the world, the world was brought into the studio, something that can be attributed to by the wide array of top level guests who saw their way into the studios. His calm physique betrayed the inner battles which were characteristic of him, and he was known to even leave in the middle of the show. It was while in the US navy and during a trip to Honolulu that Garroway decided to join radio, way back in nineteen forty one. During his off hours from the navy, he hosted a radio show in which he played jazz music. After the World War he took up disc jockeying which enhances radio career, since he was well known for wowing his fans through the numerous hits he played. His curtain was to fall in nineteen eighty two when he was found dead in his home, in what was referred to as a self inflicted gunshot wound.
