The Discovery Channel was launched in June of 1885 and has been dedicated to all things science, discovery, and innovation. The Discovery Channel is available by cable service providers throughout the United States and other parts of the world through sister channels. Programming on Discovery channel includes shows like MythBusters, How It's Made, Dirty Jobs, Future Weapons, Shark Week and many others. True to its name MythBusters is a show where the hosts "bust" popular myth, whether it is from a viral video, movie, or just a common folk tale. I always like to keep an open mind, so I was not surprised when a lot of the tales I have been hearing were found to be lies. How It's Made is also pretty much how it sounds, and so is Dirty Jobs. So I really do not have to go into detail about them but I do mention them because they are very interesting programs. Since first airing in 1987 Shark Week has always been a favorite show of Discovery Channel viewers. The program usually airs in July or August and runs for a week covering everything from shark attack stories to preservation and the likes. Also during this time, programs such as MythBusters and Dirty Jobs air special episodes with shark based themes. Hosted by ex- Navy SEAL Richard Machowicz, Future Weapons deals with upcoming military weapons. In the program Richard tests some of the best and most innovative weapons from around the world. This program especially appeals to youth. Although the Discovery Channel is very informative, I do have to say their programming gets very boring from 3am-5am and is littered with infomercials. Other than that the Discovery Channel is the perfect alternative to regular (time wasting) television programs that most children and adults watch today. Also, you can have a look at these tv channels; Planet Insolite, History Channel, National Geographic.
