James Arthur mistakenly thought that Simon Cowell was just one of his friends - Last Sunday night James Arthur becomes the winner of X Factor 2012.

Last Sunday night James Arthur becomes the winner of X Factor 2012. But after that night, he was surprised and can’t believe that the music mogul and series boss Simon Cowell called him to congratulate him on his achievements, thinking it was his mates playing a 'prank'. In an interview with MailOnline, James said: 'I spoke to Simon Cowell today. I thought it was a prank originally. He said I was a credit to the show, and he really respects what I do and that he'd love me to stay true to myself and carry on doing what I'm doing.' Although the 24-year-old singer wants the X Factor boss to have an input into his upcoming debut album, he hopes to have full control over his music. He added: 'I'd love Simon Cowell to have an input in my album; he's the biggest person in the music industry and I value his input and opinions. But I will ultimately be the person who decides what goes out there, and I'll have to be proud of it. 'There may well be an explicit content sticker on my album. Music is very important and special to me. I want it to be very truthful and honest, and I want people to be able to relate to it. 'My album will be about love and life and pain and my experiences, which many people can relate to. A lot of the songs will be about positivity and getting through struggles.' James added that he is hoping that he could do a duet with his fellow X Factor finalist Jahmene Douglas. He added to MailOnline: 'Without a doubt the album will be self-penned, I've got material I've accumulated over the last ten years that I'm going to put down in the basic form. 'I'm going to lay down albums and albums worth of music and then it's all about picking the best 12 tracks and getting the right people involved. 'Jahmene and I were always singing Lauryn Hill backstage, we were both big fans of hers, and we talked about doing something together, even if it's just for fun.' And James has revealed the first thing he plans to do since being crowned winner is get his teeth sorted out; as he has always dreamed of a set of 'pearly whites'. He said: 'I'm probably going to get my teeth fixed. It's not a vanity thing; I've just always wanted to do it. 'I'm a singer and I open my mouth pretty wide. I'd like to have some nice pearly whites in there instead of the teeth I've got now. But everyone's got their hang-ups haven't they?' The X Factor winner also has a plan to hit the gym as he had put on some weight during his time on The X Factor. He joked: 'I'll probably jump in the gym because I've been eating a lot of burgers while I've been on the show.'
