As the competition heats up since there are only five contestants left, Joshua Ledet had proven that he leads the pack. Ledet performed a Bee Gees classic To Love Somebody, which earned the 20-year-old from Louisiana a standing ovation from the judges. Judge Randy Jackson called him as the simply among the best singers who had appeared on the contest. Steven Tyler followed and stated that he is one of the best Idol of all time. Jennifer Lopez added that he is one of the best singers she had seen in over 50 years. Perhaps, what made the performance even special is that Joshua never knew the song, but he perfected it in just 15 minutes. On an earlier performance, he had earned praise from the judges for his performance of The Temptations' classic Ain't Too Proud To Beg, in a night wherein the five finalists sing songs both from the 1960s and British popular music. Randy claimed that he had similarity with the British soul singer Terence Trent D'Arby: 'To me, you can actually bring R& B music back in a different type of way,' he said. Before that, Hollie Cavanagh made a comeback after three weeks of being in the bottom. Lopez told her that it was totally different from her other performances. Tyler added that this is the first time that he heard Cavanagh step out and use her blues. Skylar Laine also gave her best singing Creedence Clearwater Revival song Fortunate Son, leaving the judges to declare that the country music fan is 'ready' for the big time. Lopez claimed that the 18-year-old Mississippi native gave them energy. Steven added that he loves everything about her voice. Randy claimed that she was born to be on stage. Phillip Phillips also impressed the judges, despite his performance was more mellow, which puts his own individual bluesy spin on it Box Tops song The Letter, Randy, said though, there are five people, but it feels like it is the finals since they are down to the wire. Steven added he had missed the melody, but the good thing was that Philipps got away with it. Jessica Sanchez performs her own version of Proud Mary. Lopez said that she kept forgetting that Jessica is only 16 years-old. Other highlights of the show involved Jessica, Skylar and Hollie as they performed Jackie Wilson's Higher and Phillip and Joshua pairing up for You've Lost That Loving Feeling, although Joshua seemed a little uncomfortable with the intimate number.
