Robert Culp is an American actor who is best known for his role alongside Bill Cosby on the 1965 hit TV show I spy. He also made various guest appearances in popular shows such as Lois & Clark: The new Adventures of Superman and Walker, Texas Ranger. Early Life: Robert Culp was born on August 16th 1930 in Oakland, California. Here he attended Berkeley High School and later attended the University of Washington School of Drama. He finished his education at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California and did not waste any time looking for jobs in the film industry. Robert was a tall man who leveled off at about 6'2 which made him a very imposing figure; this lent a hand to his success and is probably the reason why he scored so many great shows such as Trackdown and I Spy. TV Career: Many TV stars have had to wait around for their big breaks but not so with Robert; soon after graduating from college he scored his first big role on the television show Trackdown. On the show he played the part of Hoby Gilman a Texas Ranger; this character lasted for a total of 70 episodes and by the time the show was over Robert had gained international fame. After the show ended he played small roles in other westerns such as Bonanza and Gunsmoke before finally landing his other big role. In 1965 Robert was chosen to play the role of Kelly Robinson alongside Bill Cosby on the hit TV show I Spy. This show lasted from 1965 to 1968 and is considered one of Robert's best works. Robert got the opportunity to work with Bill again; this time on The Cosby Show. Here he played the part of Dr. Cliff Huxtable's old friend Scott Kelly. This characters name was a combination of the names of the two main characters from I Spy. Of recently he has worked on shows such as Everybody Loves Raymond, Robot Chicken, and the upcoming movie The Assignment. Other achievements: Something that most people do not know about Robert Culp is that in addition to being an actor he was also a very good writer. He wrote scripts for many television shows, some of which he also starred in. For example I Spy and Trackdown featured a number of episodes which were written by him. In addition to the TV shows and movies; Robert has also lent his voice to more than one video game character. His most famous video game role is Doctor Breen from the game Hale-Life 2. Surprisingly Robert has not received any awards that I am aware of, but there are only so many awards that can be given out each year; just because he has not gotten many does not mean that he is not a great actor. If you have not seen any of his work I strongly suggest you do because he is definitely one of the greatest actors of our time. CBS | ABC | NBC | Fox | ABC
