American news anchor and journalist, Russ Mitchell was born on 25th march, 1960. St. Louis, Missouri is Russ's birth place but he was raised in Rock Hill. Russ always had an inclination towards journalism and after he completed his schooling a high school in Suburban St. Louis, he opted for journalism as his subject to do his bachelors. During his school days, he even opted for a small summer workshop of Minority Journalism Workshop at the University of Missouri. During this workshop, he appeared on a Columbian television station. He completed his Bachelors of Journalism from University of Missouri in the year 1982. Today he is renowned and well known world wide for the kind of work he does, but initially he started off as a presenter for WFAA Dallas. He also worked at ABC affiliate, as a switchboard operator. He worked as an anchor at WFAA in Dallas for 2 years, joining in the year 1983 and resigning in the year 1985. After gaining experience of 2 years, he joined KTVI in St. Louis as a reporter. He worked at KTVI for two years and then left in 1987 to join KMOV in St. Louis as a reporter. He relocated himself in New York in the year 1992. Finally, after working at different places for over 9 years, Russ got his big break in the year 1992, when he joined CBS news. In CBS at that time he was given a position of co-anchor for the show 'Up to the minute'. Then in 1993, he started working for another show 'Eye to eye' as a correspondent. It was in the year 1996 that Russ Mitchell was given 'Sunday night news' on CBS, as an anchor. Today if he is famous and renowned world over, it is because of this show. Even today he has maintained his position in 'Sunday night news'. He also worked on another show on CBS 'Saturday early show' for a decade, from 1997-2007. Russ has managed to attain all the success in his life so far. Mitchell is very passionate about his work. He even expressed this in his interviews on CBS news. He loves to meet new people and this is why he is able to manage his profession so well. For the commendable job he does, he has been awarded with 3 Emmy Awards, National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He is also a member of National Association of Black Journalists, and has received 10 awards from the same. Apart from winning National Emmy award, Russ has also been awarded with Best Reporter, Missouri UPI, 1989. Russ Mitchell married Erica Townsend in the year 1987. The couple also has a daughter who is currently studying in a college. Their marriage lasted for 13 years and they got divorced in 2000. Russ then married Karina Mahtani in 2006 and the couple is now happily living in New York.
