Named after the fictional town portrayed in this TV series; Smallville first aired in 2001 and has since gained an average of 4 million viewers per episode. The show centers around the life of Clark Kent before he downs his blue and red costume as Superman. True to its comic book roots Smallville features a large amount of action, adventure, and romance. Most of the shows feature one-episode-villains who show up and wreak havoc before being destroyed, sent to jail, or turned good by Clark Kent. These villains always seem to attack the persons Clark cares about, so he constantly has to push people away even if he cares about them, because the more they know the more danger they are in of being attacked or killed. Superman's main comic villain Lex Luther started out on Smallville as one of Clark's friends, but over the years he has turned into one of his worst nightmares until disappearing off the show in 2008. Over the years we have also seen the introduction of many heroes from the DC universe: Green Arrow, Flash, Cyborg, and many others have all made appearances in Smallville, and to the delight of fans all over the world they have formed an alliance to fight crime. The creators have even added a few characters to the Superman series including: Chloe Sullivan a friend of Clarks played by actress Allison Mack and Jimmy Olsen an older brother to the Jimmy Olsen (Clarks coworker) featured in the Superman comics. Though the show has been accepted by most diehard Superman fans, there are still a few who think Tom Welling should put on the cape or at lease fly a little bit more in the series. Tom and the creators of the series have tried to stay away from both of these things stating in numerous interviews that they are trying to keep the show away from having a "cartoon" feel to it. I really do not see what they are talking about; how much more "cartoon" can you get than being able to shoot fire from your eyes? Nonetheless there probably will not be any flying or capes in this show anytime soon. Overall Smallville is a great show; the actors do their job well and so does the rest of the crew. Whenever you have time to spare head over to The CW and check this show out, it is one of my personal favorites and I am sure you will not be disappointed.
