Wilfred is a new TV series that is based around Ryan. He is not the average man, completely depressed and feels inside that he is really getting no where in life. Instead of trying to turn his life round and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, he has agreed with himself that he has nothing to live for and simply wants to kill himself. Even his suicide attempt does not seem to be going to plan, as a neighbour asks him to look after their dog, half way through his first attempt.
Everyone else sees Wilfred as the dog that he really is. That being said, Ryan sees him in a new light and all he can see is a real person rather than a dog. For this reason, Wilfred and Ryan start to bond and essentially become friends. What Wilfred does is slowly tell Ryan what he needs to do and teaches him important life lessons. For instance, he explains that in life Ryan needs to know more about people, love and living in general in order to get anywhere and before this happens, he will certainly not be able to achieve what he really wants to.
Many people have suggested that Elijah Wood is certainly the biggest influence of Wilfred and has managed to build the TV series into what it really is today. Most people that have started watching this TV series have simply done so because of Elijah Wood and found out that it really does live up to expectations. FX is the producing network and they have done a good job in all aspects of the creation and distribution of this great new TV series.
One thing that can be said about Wilfred is that the plot is not particularly complex. Unlike many of the other TV series that are out currently, this plot is simply to understand, so it makes for some extremely easy viewing. Some people may or may not like this, but for most it is a great show to wind down with after a hard days work. Even though the plot is simple, the talent employed in the show, alongside the in depth creativity makes up for where the plot fails. What people need to really realize before watching the show is that the humor is fairly dark, although it can be fairly uplifting at times, a real contrast.
