This show is a reality talent program. It is Australian and based on an original Dutch version created by John de Mol. It is a part of a broader international franchise. Its first season premiere took place on Nine Network April 15th of 2012. It featured Joel Madden, Keith Urban, Seal, and Delta Goodrem as coaches. The person who won the first season was Karise Eden. She beat Rachael Leahcar, Darren Percival, and Sarah De Bono on its finale live-air broadcast on the 18th of June in 2012. Ricky Martin replaced Keith Urban for its second season after he joined up with the judging panel of American Idol. The hosts of the series are Faustina Agolley and Darren McMullen (who are the social media correspondents). It is all part of the whole 'The Voice' franchise. It is based on a format from a Netherlands competition called 'The Voice of Holland' that is similar. There are 3 main phases of the competition structure which are: 1. Blind Auditions 2. Battle Rounds 3. Live Performance Shows The winner earns a recording contract from Universal Music. (1). Blind Auditions - This phase consists of 4 judges and coaches who are all well-known reputable recording artists. They select teams of contestants via a process called 'blind audition'. Each judge gets to take the time of the auditioning singer's performance to make their decision as to whether or not to put them on their team or not. The performances average about a minute in length. If two or more of the judges want to add the same singer to their respective teams (this happens quite often), the decision falls to the singer as to who will be their coach. (2). Battle Rounds - In this phase the teams of singers are mentored by their coaches. In this battle stage the coaches have two team members out there battling against one another directly. They sing the same song together in a singing battle. The coach then decides which one will be advancing to the next phase which is the 'live' round. In that very first live round the four acts remaining will compete against each other again head to head. This time the voting public determines one of these four acts that come from each team that will be advancing and make the final eight. The coach selects which of the remaining three acts will fill in the other performer spot to stay on the team. It breaks down like this - Four teams with four singers (16 total). One from each team is chosen by the public (4 singers), and one from each team by the coaches (4 singers), and these make up the final 8. (3). The Live Shows - Now we are at the final phase of the competition. There are eight singers left to compete against each other singing in a live TV broadcast. The audience and coaches hold an equal say in who advances to the final 4 (50/50 choice). Now there is only one singer left per coach (4) to compete against one another in the finale. The final outcome is to be decided solely on the public's vote. It was in January of 2012 that it was announced to the public that Darren McMullen would be hosting the show. The singers were paired up with their mentor coaches like this: • Darren Hayes with 'Goodrem' • Benji Madden with 'Joel' (brothers) • Ricki-Lee Coulter with 'Seal' • Megan Washington with Keith Urban This was how they entered the Battle Rounds. It was on May 10th of 2012 that they announced 'Faustina Agolley' as the social media correspondent of the show during the live show segments.
