The Mentalist is an American crime drama that currently airs on the CBS network. This program premiered in September of 2008 and is currently in its 2nd season. Both seasons combined are scheduled to air 32 episodes each of which are about 43 minutes long without commercial breaks. The show was created by Bruno Heller, directed by Chris Long and David Nutter and stars Simon Baker and Robin Tunney as lead actors. Simon has already been nominated for Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and SAG Awards for his role in this show; it is no wonder why this is one of CBS's highest rated shows. The Mentalist is basically about the team of Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon. Together they assist law enforcement officers in solving crimes in and around the Sacramento area. They are private consultants which mean they are not government agents. But that does not stop them from head butting with the regular officers. Patrick who used to be a self proclaimed psychic medium uses his almost unnatural observations abilities to solve crime. He used to have a family; but after his attention-seeking behavior got his family killed he decided to turn over a new leaf. Teresa is the social face of the team, she makes sure that Patrick does not get himself killed and she is also the only one who Patrick trusts enough to tell about his past. The funny thing about this show is that Patrick admits that he psychic abilities were nothing more than a farce, but he still has the ability to "read" people very well. This is seen throughout the show and he constantly angers the local law enforcement with it. For example if somebody is getting in his way while he is working on a case he will take a few minutes and confront the person telling them things about themselves which normal people would not know. This always ticks them off and it is a wonder why his face is still intact. This is a pretty decent program, there is not too much violence but there is still enough to make some parents reconsider letting their little kids watch it. Other than that I give this program a 8/10 it is pretty good and has definitely earned its spot on TV. So head over to CBS and check out this program for yourself or you can log onto their website and watch full episodes, play games, or view info about upcoming episodes.
