The Price is Right is one of the most successful game shows to ever grace American television. This show first aired on the CBS Network on September 4th 1972 and as of January more than 7,000 episodes have been aired. The Price is Right was created by Bob Stewart and is currently directed by Rich DiPirro, each episode is about 30 minutes long. When the program first started out the episodes were 60 minutes long but CBS wisely decided to cut down the show to 30 minutes; people just do not have the attention span they use to. On this game show contestants have to bid with fake money on items that are placed in front of them. Whichever contestant bids the closest to the value of the item without exceeding is crowned the winner. This is only one of the modes this game is played in, but this is the main one. So far the show has given out over $250,000,000 in prizes, this is because most items given away on the show are not cheap; they average in price from $400 - $3000. This is pretty cool because most game shows give away cheap crappy items or very little money. The record for highest winnings on this show is currently held by Adam Rose; on February 22nd 2008 he carried home over 1.1 million dollars. Before the 1990s this was not possible because CBS had limited the amount a single person could per episode to $75,000. Because this show is so well put together it has become one of the most popular game shows of our time. It has also won five Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show. This is a number that is pretty hard to beat, especially since most game shows do not last more than a few seasons. If you would like to watch this program head over to CBS or you can log onto their website where you will find full length episodes. At their website you not only find episodes of this show but you will also find great information about the cast and crew, a place to talk about the show with other fans, and information on how to obtain tickets for yourself. Who knows maybe you will be selected to participate in the show and if you try very hard maybe just maybe you will be another Adam Rose and walk home with everything.
