Flashpoint is a Canadian television drama that airs on CTV and CBS. This is the first Canadian based television program to air on primetime television in America since Due South which ran from 1994 to 1999. Flashpoint made its debut in July of 2008 and has been on the air ever since. So far this program has run for 3 seasons covering over 32 episodes, each episode is about 45 minutes without commercial breaks. Flashpoint is broadcasted in both 480i and 1080i and the cast is all Canadian with the exception of actresses Amy Jo Johnson. The rest of the main characters are Enrico Paetkau, Hugh Dillon, Sergio Di Zio, Michael Cram, Mark Taylor, and Ruth Marshall. Flashpoint is basically about a group of Canadian officers who are all part of an elite tactical unit. This unit is called Strategic Response Unit or SRU for short. This highly trained unit is called in to take care of situations that officers with just standard training cannot. For example if there is a hostage crisis or bomb threat SRU would be called in to take care of the situation using their highly trained officers and state of the art equipment. The whole goal of this unit is to resolve problems without the use of deadly force or any other force that is not necessary, but if they are forced to they are more than capable of carrying out the task at hand. At first the setting of this show was not known because the creators would not reveal this information, but if you watch a few episodes you will clearly see that it is set in Toronto Canada. This is because tons of landmarks located in Toronto are shown throughout the show and squad cars can be seen with "Toronto" printed on their side. As expected this show has received more American viewers that Canadian ones, this is probably because America has a larger number of citizens than Canada. If you combine the number of viewers from both demographic locations in comes up to about 10.5 million viewers. This is definitely a good show, I am not saying it is the best thing around since sliced bread but it is still pretty entertaining so head over to CBS or CTV to watch this amazing show. If it just does not fit into your time schedule you can go out and buy season one – two which are now available on DVD or head over to their website where you can watch full length episodes.
