Tom Brokaw is one of the leading journalists in recent times and has been working with NBC for many years now. He is also known as the managing director of the network and an anchor for the show, the "Nightly News." He is also an author for the book "The Greatest Generation" and many other books that have seen him acquire numerous awards during his career. Tom Brokaw is the only person known to host three of the major shows in this network, the 'Today Show,' "NBC nightly news" and "Meet the Press."
Tom Brokaw's early life
He was born in Webster in South Dakota in the year 1940. He was the first born of three brothers and his maternal father Richard P. Brokaw was the one that founded Bristol, South Dakota town.
Tom Brokaw's father worked a construction foreman for the engineers in "Army corps." His father's job required them to move often and so they moved about until they finally settled in Yankton where Tom Brokaw went to high school.
During his life in high school (Yankton senior high school), Tom Brokaw became governor of the American Legion boys state. This allowed him to accompany the then Governor, Joe Foss to New York, where they took part in a television game show. This is where their long relationship began. He would later feature him in his book, "The Greatest Generation."
Early years
Tom Brokaw began his job at the NBC as a co-anchor in the show "Nightly News with Tom Brokaw with Roger Mudd. Reuven Frank, the president of the network thought that the dual didn't work well together and chose Brokaw to do the task all alone.
He has interviewed many big names during his career, one of them being the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin. Tom Brokaw has made a name for himself for various reasons; including the time he anchored all day from 9.30 am till midnight, when the World Trade center was attacked.
He has also reported documentary for the Discovery channel and also the history channel. Tom Brokaw is also one of the many anchors who have been influential in so many ways. He has taken his unique way of delivering news and combined with his passion for what he does and the results are just amazing. His career has flourished and there is no telling what to expect from this award winning journalist.
